Description

From the arrival of the Tognola cable car at an altitude of 2200 m a.s.l., follow the forest road to Malga Tognola, at 1988 m a.s.l. From here to the Valsorda forestry house, the trail has recently been repaired and equipped with wooden walkways to cross swampy areas, before immersing into the Valsorda woods for lots of fun on excellent flowing terrain. From the forestry house, climb towards Malga Valsorda (1918 m a.s.l.) following the forest road to Forcella Valsorda (2094 m a.s.l.) along trail 390. This section is quite challenging because the bike must be carried for about 20 minutes until reaching the junction. From here, continue along the ridge to the right following an ancient trail, almost completely disappeared in some sections but still visible, which runs along the mountain ridge. After about half an hour, the nice descent (S3) towards Malga Fiamèna (1752 m a.s.l.) begins, from where we return following the forest road towards the junction with Malga Boalon (1686 m a.s.l.). Near a curve, take the left forest road Salvania, which on sloping terrain first and then after some brief steep sections leads to the junction with the Val de Neora forest road, which we follow for a short stretch, then turn right onto the fun descent trail (S1). At the end of the trail, continue on the dirt road until intersecting the paved road, which from Zortea leads to Agriturismo Santa Romina. Then continue on flat ground until the next junction, keep left towards Malga Lozen, first on asphalt and then on dirt road until reaching it, then continue downhill to reach the main paved road leading to Lake Calaita. Proceed uphill for some tens of meters and then turn right onto the Frate Doch-Canazè forest road, then climb to the junction with the trail, which to the left leads towards Lake Calaita, a climbing trail but almost entirely rideable (S2). Near the Miralago hut, we skirt the lake towards San Martino until the junction, where we admire the spectacular panorama of the Pale di San Martino. Go left and after a few hundred meters go right, climbing following the signs to San Martino. Shortly after, a descent (S2) begins, which brings us to the Crel forest road, which we follow until the junction just before the Rio Cigolera bridge, descending right towards Malga Fratazza. After a few minutes, we find ourselves at the parking lot at the base of the Tognola cable car to close the loop.
