CAPANNA PUNTA PENIA
- Alpine Hut
- Passo Fedaia
The Capanna Punta Penia refuge does not easily concede itself: if you arrived from the north, you climbed along the glacier; to the west, there is the via ferrata; if you arrived from the south, you deserve an applause, you have overcome one of the most challenging walls of the Dolomites. This refuge is a destination. Also because you cannot go any higher. You are on the summit of Marmolada, the tallest of the Dolomites. The reward is an unmatched panorama of the dolomitic groups that are all at your feet. Sleeping up here on a windy night, in this hut anchored to the rock with steel cables, can be a strong experience, but in the morning you will find that at an altitude of 3,300 meters, it often happens to wake up higher than the clouds.
Opening
From June 20 to September 20
Before the hike, it is advisable to check the actual opening of the refuge by contacting the manager
Routes
From the summit of Marmolada, the highest of the Dolomites, you can obviously only go down. But those who still have energy (and especially mountaineering skills and adequate equipment) can reach Punta Rocca (difficulty EEA), at a slightly lower altitude, along the crests of the Regina, where the cable car from Malga Ciapela arrives.
