Description

Originally a small wooden hut built in the fifties when the Lake Fedaia dam was constructed, it later became a welcoming refuge, which has been renovated several times by the current warden Ermanno Lorenz. The terrace overlooks the waters of the lake while behind rises the north face of the Marmolada. The Rifugio Capanna Cima Undici is the last building on Passo Fedaia, where the road ends and the footpaths leading up to the Marmolada glacier begin and where important mountaineering competitions, such as the Marmolada Full Gas, get underway. Open: From 17 June to 30 September Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks From the Refuge you can walk up to Pian dei Fiacconi in 1 ½ hours (although you can also take the a cable car). From there you can continue to Punta Penia (summit of the Marmolada) on the normal route across the glacier, which requires mountaineering skills and the services of a mountain guide (3 ½ hours). The Marmolada can also be climbed by taking the (difficult) Cresta Ovest via ferrata (3 ½ hours from Pian dei Fiacconi) passing over Forcella Marmolada (where you can also drop down to Rifugio Contrin). On the other flank of the mountain, you can get to Rifugio Viel Dal Pan (1 ¾ hours) or take the via ferrata delle Trincee from Porta Vescovo up to Passo Padon (3 hours, medium difficulty).
