The Forest of the Violin
Three variety packed skiing tours show off the sunny arena
of the Magnificent Community of Fiemme/Obereggen: Alpe Cermis, Alpe
Lusia and the Latemar skiing centre. It's possible to set off from
almost all of the town centres and free buses go between the skiing
resorts. The Forest of the Violin skiing tour runs from Cavalese
on to Alpe Cermis. From the Paion 'rifugio' you not only have a
wonderful view on to Latemar and the Sella Group, but also on to
Marmolada and the Pale di San Martino. The thick forest of the mountain
slopes of the Fiemme Valley is also a wonder to see. Some 300 years
ago in the Paneveggio Forest the Stradivari family from Cremona
searched for mature samples of hazel spruce for that right quality
of resonance. From this wood the Stradivari violins were fashioned,
each one a masterpiece in its own right, which are played to this
day by the finest of musicians.
Rich in Fables and Stories
In Bellamonte the tour follows on to the sunny terraces of Alpe
Lusia with an amazing panoramic view and lovely slopes. The Fables
and Stories tour leads us through a fantasy world. You'll encounter
dwarfs, giants and bewitched princesses! In the region's mountain
huts ('rifugi') you'll also find information about those old fables.
The Coral Mountains/ The Latemar Marionettes
In Predazzo, Pampeago or alternatively in Obereggen the Coral Mountains/Latemar
Marionettes skiing tour starts off at the Latemar skiing centre
at the heart of the Latemar Group. At one time the Dolomites were
coral mountains within a sea of algae and fish. Great land movements
shaped the mountains which rose out of the water 270 million years
ago. In 1796 the "Dolomite" mineral was first presented
to the world, named after its discoverer, Deodat de Dolomieu. In
fact you can understand about the development of the region just
by looking at the rocks. The Val di Fiemme/ Obereggen Valley is
in itself a geological museum within the mineral garden of the Alps.
Tip:
Spectacular views are no rarity in the Dolomites. Among the most
beautiful is the panoramic view from Paion del Cermis. Rosengarten,
Langkofel, Sella, Marmolada and the awe inspiring Tower of the Pala
Group are some of the fantastic peaks to be seen from here. The
majestic beauty of these mountains is both astounding and simply
unforgettable!
