SKITOUR 1970 WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIP - WITCHES SKITOUR
The 1970 Gardena World Championship Skiing Tour
The "1970 World Championship Skiing Tour" on some of
the wonderful slopes in the Gröden Valley begins either in Ortisei,
S. Cristina or Selva. Starting in Ortisei you pass from the Seceda high
plateau by S. Cristina on to Mount de Seura and - after a thrilling run
- to Ciampinoi, Plan de Gralba and Piz Seteur in the fabulous skiing arena
between the Sella massif and Sasso Lungo. The way to Selva Gardena leads
over the giant slalom run on which Karl Schranz became the 1970 world
champion. Dantercepies is the next objective which means the 'Cir', so
named after the mountain where the 1970 world champion, Annerösli
Zryd, was crowned. On the route lies the run which has a name that is
music to the ears of skiing enthusiasts: the Saslong. In 1970 the Swiss
Bernhard Russi was the champion here. In the afternoon sunshine our tour
leads on to Col Raiser and ends with a 9 kilometre romantic run to Ortisei.
Gardena Tip
On the mountain way from S. Cristina to Ciamponoi you can see Fischburg
on the confines between Selva Gardena and S. Cristina. Dietrich von Wolkenstein
built the hunting lodge between 1622 and 1641. In 1863 Count Leopold von
Wolkenstein Trotsburg donated the building to the S. Cristina community.
Since 1926 Fischburg has been in private ownership.
The Witches' Tour - Alpe di Siusi
At the beginning of the 1600s Castle Prösels was the setting for
various witches' trials. The supernatural events were said to take place
on the nearby Alpe di Siusi. St Ulrich, the Spitzbuhel parking lot and
Campatsch are the points to set off from on the climb on the Alpe di Siusi
witches' tour with 7 stations and much magical fun for both young and
old. The funpark, witches' humpback run, a witches' chimney as a fine
obstacle tunnel made out of snow and witches' park with life sized figures
are only a few of the attractions ! And naturally the famous witches'
'benches' are there too on show, where the Schlern witches worked up their
brew with the clouds. Against bad weather there is, however, an antidote:
you take the snow as far as the eye can see, add the sunshine, garnish
the elixir with the holiday feeling and round off the spell with the magic
of the huts. But that's no witchcraft...it's holidaying on the Alpe di
Siusi !
