SKITOUR LADIN LEGENDS

Knights and princesses
San Vigilio in Marebbe is the ideal starting point for a tour in the realm of the Ladin stories and fables. By following in the footsteps of the traditional story tellers you'll discover something new. Franz Wilhelm de Brach, 'Gran Bracun' as he was called by the Ladins, lived here hundreds of years ago... a personality cloaked in mystery. The skiing day begins on the trail of the Gran Bracun with a lovely view of Piz de Plaies and a run to La Para hut, where you can find out more about the adventures of the dragon slayer. Once fortified and one more good story richer, off you go to the Kronplatz, the very spot where the Princess Dolasila was crowned. The mysterious kingdom of Fanes is rich with countless tales about her, among others. Dolasila was said to wear a sable fur and her silver arrow found every target. So the princess was not only beautiful, but also unbeatable !

And one more wonder
The panoramic view from Plan de Corones will take your breath away and you'll be able to see many famous Dolomite peaks right across as far as the imposing Tofana. The 'Concordia 2001' stands impressively on the plateau, the largest Tyrolean clock and a monument to freedom. The tour continues towards the valley to the Graziani rifugio, where you can round off the exciting story of Dolasila with a culinary treat: 'Crafuns Mori' - the Dolasila speciality -which are doughnuts laced with tasty wild ragout. On you go in the direction of the Furkel Pass through a little wood to a further key venue for skiing enthusiasts through the ages, the Bivouac hut. In 1636 the inhabitants of plague ridden Welsberg made a pilgrimage over the pass to Gnadenmutter to the parish of Marebbe and were subsequently freed from the epidemic. A monument on the way records the event. With the trip into the valley this action-packed storytelling skiing day draws to an end.

Tip:
The parish church of San Vigilio in Marebbe counts among the most beautiful Baroque churches in the whole region. It dates back to 1782 as a complete Rococo work of art in its own right, with playful looking fashioned towers, decorated facade and richly bedecked interior. The frescos of the domes are particularly impressive. The artist was Matthäus Günther and the works of art depict, among others, the stoning of the holy Vigilius.
