Val di Fassa

Slopes

A fairytale world

Take your choice from the electrifying downhills or the relaxing and pleasant slalom runs winding their way through picturesque settings.

Val di Fassa… only here you can admire the real "rocky cathedrals": Catinaccio, the Sella massif, Sassolungo and Marmolada. Legendary giants made of white "dolomia" that magically turn pink at sunset, giving life to legends populated by kings, gnomes and fairies.

Love is certainly in the air in these parts and it is all to do with the magical setting – blue sky, magnificent peaks,  pure nature and delightful snow will work their magic on you. Ideal too for families with children and young ones taking their first ski steps among the Dolomites.

FRESH SNOW IN VAL DI FASSA!

All Val di Fassa's news

The upcoming winter season in Val di Fassa is getting closer with further news. The latest arrival is definitely the new black piste "Volata" (sprint in Italian) in the ski area San Pellegrino. The new fast and technical slope starts from the uphill station of the cable car Col Margherita (2,510 m a.s.l) running till to the pass (1,879 m a.s.l.) the piste is 2,350 m long with 631 m of drop. Actually, the track is not completely new, part of it was already there along the piste leading to Lago di Cavia, and, at the end, when joining with the slope "Col Margherita". This is the new track "Volata", just before the final part, the piste presents a max grade point of 57% (30% on average). The track is varied and wonderful just like the Dolomites panorama and the fairy woods surrounding it. But it is not over, the ski area Alpe Lusia-San Pellegrino has something else set aside for ski lovers, the old chair lifts Castelir-Fassane and Fassane-Morea have been replaced by a modern cabin lift with intermediate station (1,800 m a.s.l.). Those who want to reach the top station only have to remain into the cabins. The new lift carries 10 people per cabin and about 2,200 p/h (people per hour). The cabin is definitely eco-friendly, thanks to its modern design but especially to the removal of 13 out of 28 structures of support and 4 out of the 5 pillars of the old chair lift in the middle of the ski track.

All these important modifications improve the quality of the entire ski area that added some 300 m to the sledge-slope "Fraina" (served by a lift) that reaches now 2.1 km.
Moving up through the valley, from Moena to Canazei and Campitello, reaching the area Belvedere-Col Rodella guests will be surprised to find more news. Indeed, the lift Pradel-Rodella has been replaced by a brand new model with panoramic cabins. The black ski run "Diego" from "Col dei Rossi" is now wider and the slopes close to the Dolomiti Snowpark, "Kristiania", "Pordoi" and "Belvedere", have been modified. Do you think it’s over? Is not! The real heart of Val di Fassa, the ski area Buffaure, underwent several improvements; the pistes "Buffaure di Sotto" and the "Panorama" were widened and enhanced, but also the "Buffaure Snowpark" holds several surprises for snowboard and jumping aficionados.
Also the district Carezza, above Vigo di Fassa, experienced several changes with the enlargement of the snow park and of the kinderpark "Naniland" and least but not last, the new restaurant at the uphill station of the cabin lift Laurin I.

Silver is the ski pass which allows you to go skiing to four districts in Trentino and South Tyrol (Alto Adige-Südtirol): Val di Fassa/Carezza, Alpe Lusia/San Pellegrino Pass (with Moena and Falcade), Fiemme/Obereggen and San Martino di Castrozza/Rolle Pass. You don’t need to purchase two different cards to enjoy the 210 km of ski runs from Canazei to Moena anymore. With Silver, available in two exclusive formulas 5 or 6 days, everyday is a perfect day to explore a different ski area in the Dolomites.

Experience the enchanting ski tour Panorama from Vigo-Pozza, try the new cable car from Alba di Canazei to Col dei Rossi in the Belvedere skiarea (and Sellaronda) and continue to Col Rodella above Campitello di Fassa.

Discover the Alpe Lusia-San Pellegrino tour from Moena to Alpe Lusia-Bellamonte; reach San Pellegrino pass by ski bus, catch the lift to Col Margherita, ski down towards Falcade and come back using the new cabin lift Molino-Le Buse. Lateral valleys of Primiero and Fiemme offer a wide range of beautiful runs to spend an amazing day on the snow at the foot of Pale di San Martino, Lagorai and Latemar groups.

White adventure in the Dolomites

Mountains of legends, culture, traditions, sport and much more to be discovered amongst these enchanted mountains, the kingdom of the legendary King Laurino. The famous king was the guardian of this enchanted valley, where even today a fire is lit every evening at dusk giving origin to the unforgettable phenomenon of light called "Enrosadira". Over time the "Ladins" of Val di Fassa have guarded this valley of incomparable beauty, stretching over about 20 km and surrounded by some of the Dolomites' most famous peaks: Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Sella group, Pordoi, over which Marmolada stands undisputed.

Val di Fassa, the important thing is to be there!

The Ladin cuisine is rich in typical dishes to satisfy even the most demanding palates. A real mountain of pleasure! You just have to decide where to reach it from: a gourmet restaurant or a hut on the ski slopes? A mix of ingredients to welcome skiers on the valley floor, where they can spend "happy hour" until dinner time, when the last rays of sunlight leave the evening shade and invites you to keep going, to dive into the night which in Val di Fassa is just as long as the day. Here the après-ski is a great experience! After a day on skis, you definitely deserve some relaxation. The right place to pamper yourself are Spa in Pozza, the Water Centre Dòlaondes and Eghes Wellness Center in Canazei.

Resorts in Val di Fassa

Canazei, with its four outlying areas of Gries, Chieva, Alba and Penia, not even being the most populated town of Val di Fassa is surely the most renowned touristically and is above all acclaimed nationally and internationally for its winter tourism due to its strategic position by the Dolomite passes of Pordoi, Sella and Fedaia. In winter Canazei is a genuine skiing capital, placed right in the heart of the Sellaronda Skitour and Dolomiti Superski, Europe's biggest skiing region with 1.200 km of slopes and including the areas of: Belvedere, Ciampac, Col Rodella and Marmolada, easily reachable from the town. Canazei offers its guests the latest on the winter sports market. Up together with the replacement of the ski lifts and the renewal of tecnology. Canazei's sport halls, shops, restaurants and disco-pubs make it an ideal place to spend a great holiday in the mountains, among the Dolomites.

Campitello is dominated by the imposing mass of the Sassolungo and by the Col Rodella, from where you can admire one of the most wonderful landscapes of the Dolomite arc, whose summit is reachable directly from the village with a quick cable car. In winter you can choose from a wide variety of skiing opportunities offered by the well-equipped Col Redella/Belvedere ski carousel. Mazzin is the smallest municipality in Val di Fassa and includes the villages of Campestrin and Fontanazzo. The town is known for the discovery of important traces of early human settlements, Rhaetian in origin ("Doss dei Pigui"), and furthermore preserves the only example of a rustic manorhouse in the whole valley, known as "Ciasa Battel", which has a triangular-capped tower and frescos and decorations of notable artistic value. In the past Mazzin was made famous as the town of "pitores", the artisan decorators who at one time used to migrate with the seasons in search of fortune.  In winter cross-country skiing enthusiasts can set off from here directly onto the beautiful track of the Marcialonga, which goes as far as Canazei and then returns across the valley floor; for downhill skiing fans a widespread network of ski buses ensures a quick transfer to the ski-lifts in the nearby resorts.

Soraga is considered one of the Val di Fassa's oldest settlements, which over the years has learnt how to grow and maintain its beauty, as well as keeping typical Ladin features intact. The village is set at the foot of the Vallaccia, the Monzoni chain and is overlooked by the Catinaccio group with the Roda di Vael. The picturesque and quiet centre rich in spectacular corners to discover, such as shops with traditional products and even a great play area for children, make Soraga the ideal place for a relaxing stay in the mountains, among the Dolomites. In winter the cross-country skiers find a real paradise of tracks next to the hotels and Alpine skiing enthusiasts can reach, by ski bus, the nearest ski areas (Moena-Lusia and Vigo-Catinaccio) in a few minutes. Within its boundaries Soraga boasts an environmental pearl: the famous Fuciade hollow, that can be reached from San Pellegrino Pass.

Moena is the gateway to Val di Fassa. It rises out of a splendid alluvial basin surrounded by some of the most alluring Dolomite groups which include Catinaccio, Latemar and Monzoni. It is the main town of Val di Fassa, known as the "Fairy of the Dolomites", which encapsulates its charm and tradition which are linked to stories lost in the mists of time. The village, which is well looked after architecturally, is notable for the attractive elegance seen in the boutiques, where you have the chance to satisfy your most demanding high-class shopping desires. The centre of the village is ideal for a walk between its two squares, closed to the traffic, with historical buildings, cafès, shops and gourmet restaurants. In winter, Moena thrives in the heart of the ski area Alpe Lusia-San Pellegrino, featuring a functional network of ski lifts and splendid slopes, as well as an equipped cross-country skiing centre ("Alochet").
